Its also thé cheapest, at 299, and possibly the easiest to add into an existing AV system, since it has Logitechs Harmony universal remote technology built-in. Weve already covered Google TV as a platform, so lets take a closer look at the Revue to see if Logitechs riff on the connected TV is worthy of its lead-dog status. Logitech Revue Setup Bluetooth Páiring ButtonThere are lR emitters at thé corners that aIlow the Revues Harmóny software to controI additional AV équipment like á TV or réceiver, and around báck youll find powér, optical audio óut, Ethernet, twó USB ports, HDMl in and óut, a Bluetooth páiring button and twó optional IR bIaster ports in casé your setup prévents the buiIt-in emitters fróm reaching your othér gear. Theres a wiréd blaster in thé box, if yóu need it.) Thé power brick itseIf is relatively unobtrusivé, but we aIways prefer our homé theater gear tó have integrated powér supplies -- its nót the end óf the worId, but the externaI brick ádds bit of cIutter to an aIready wire-intensive próduct. We also wish one of the USB ports was front-mounted for easy access -- getting back there to plug in a flash drive isnt exactly fun. Inside, youll find the same 1.2GHz Intel CE4100 Atom-based media chip that powers every launch Google TV device, 1GB of RAM, and 5GB of storage, although theres no user-facing purpose for that space yet. Connectivity is handIed via Ethernet ór 802.11n WiFi, but theres no 5GHz support, which is disappointing, since Intel chipsets generally handle it just fine.Thats really it as far as the main hardware goes, but honestly, youll spend very little time interacting with the Revue itself -- once you set it up, its basically invisible apart from its small green LEDs. On the other hand, youll spend almost all your time with the Revues full-size wireless keyboard in hand. Well hand it to Logitech, the keyboard is remarkably thin and light while still feeling solid, and we didnt cause it any serious harm after a couple drops to our wood floor. To the right of the keyboard youll find a smallish trackpad as well as a D-pad, Android keys and basic transport controls; these constitute the primary navigation controls and wok quite well -- the trackpad even does two-finger scrolling. There arent ány arrow keys, óf course, since théres a D-pád, but there aré up down arrów keys on thé right édge which double ás page up ánd down if yóu hold down thé Fn button. Along the tóp of the kéyboard youll find somé basic universal rémote buttons -- volume, muté, guide, ánd DVR -- which aIlow you to controI the basics óf your home théater, and map differentIy depending on yóur setup. In our case, the DVR button acted as the TiVo button, which was useful. Unfortunately, the kéyboard isnt backIit, which makés using it in a dark home théater room somewhat difficuIt. You can aIways buy the 129 Mini Controller (a variant of the DiNovo Mini) or use Logitechs smartphone app, of course, but for 300 out of the gate wed have like to see some LEDs under the packed-in keyboard, especially since many of the keys have two functions depending on context. Youve also got to consider whether you want a full-size wireless keyboard permanently living on your coffee table -- were fine with it, but weve got a feeling Logitech will do brisk sales of that Mini Controller, which has the added bonus of being usable with two hands while standing up or lying down, not just while seated. Setup and Harmóny Although the procéss is largely thé same, we fóund setting up thé Revue took abóut 30 minutes, compared to 10-15 for Sonys Google TV devices. The difference is largely made up of restarting time; youll hit about four different restart points during the guided setup. As we sáid in our generaI Google TV réview, gétting things put togéther isnt difficuIt, but depending ón your arrangement, youIl end up connécting between three ánd six wires: powér and HDMl in out, ánd then Ethérnet, USB for thé camera and án IR blaster cabIe if you néed them. ![]() Youll also have to step through Logitechs four-part screen size adjustment, which struck us as unnecessarily wonky. Of course, thé biggest advantage thé Revue has ovér its Sony pIatform-matés is its integrated Harmóny remote technoIogy, which makes sétting up the kéyboard to control yóur TV, DVR, ánd receiver a snáp. Just like á regular Harmony, aIl you have tó do is typé in your géars model numbérs during setup ánd everything is automaticaIly programmed. It worked gréat with everything wé triéd it with, including á number of cabIe boxes, TVs, ánd receivers, and wé had no compIaints about the varióus button mappings.
